He's got a killer backyard complete with pool and what I like to call 'the tiny house'. I'm trying to convince him to let us live in it because since watching a documentary on Tiny Houses, I'm convinced they are the best thing since regular sized homes.
This year we changed it up a bit and went to Aidan's Dad's house first, which is equally as amazing. Charlie scarfed on some food over there for awhile while chatting with Aidan while I sat lazily in the swinging porch seat with Hattie and looked out over the lake and chatted with one of the coolest people I know. It was pretty marvelous, until I realized that I could see my reflection in the glass fence surrounding the deck and I was like, 'Woah, is that what I look like when I just sit lazily?? Oh shit, mental note to really kick up the diet in a big way...after today of course.'
After a few beers and my mental note, we were off to my Dads spectacular back yard.
It was getting a little later and Steve was quivering with excitement.
'Can we do them now?!'
'Not yet.'
'PLEASE, PLEASE ITS GETTING A LITTLE DARKER!'
'Eat something and you can go out a do a few.'
I sat with Summer on my lap and tried to get her to eat more than chips.
She had been playing in the pool, in the beating sun and heat all day and hadn't really had much, in typical toddler fashion.
I coaxed her to eat some cucumbers and drink a little water.
'Way to go Sara' I thought to myself,' she probably feels great after a little snack like that.'
I mentally high-fived myself and then my step-mom handed me another jello shot.
'I'm killin it!' I thought to myself again.
I should never, ever be so cocky.
'Jeeze, what are you doing to her over there?' Cried the peanut gallery in the pool.
'Just too much sun and not enough nap, I guess!' I cried to the peanut gallery.
Then, she stopped for a brief second to open her jaws and projectile vomit all over me.
'Dad! I need some assistance immedietly, Summer just puked on me!'
Without a thought, he grabbed the hose leapt in the pool, and was spraying us off before anyone could even react.
'We can go do fireworks now, Steve.'
I cleaned us both up and Tamara, Summer, Charlie and I went and laid on the front lawn while Steve was up with all the dudes, shirtless lighting fireworks.
He is way too cool for me anymore, everytime I went over to see what he was doing, he would casually brush me off and give me short answers.
Sweet.
Summer fell asleep with Charlie on the grass and Tamara kept feeding us jello shots, it was lovely.
We bid my Dad adieu after a little while and went back to Aidan's Dad's house to watch the boys put on the worlds slowest fireworks show, over the lake.
Heather, Janet and I made sure to put a glowstick in Steves pocket so we could see where he was down on the grass; things were getting a little shaky with the big boys and all the whiskey consumption.
They would set up for a huge firework and then take a 5 minute shot break, things went on like this for an hour and a half.
All the girls came inside and laid on the couch to watch the fireworks through the huge glass windows and eventually our day was over.
Booze and Family.
That's all we need.
Cheers.
