Leavenworth

Ok, clearly it has been awhile and there are tons and tons of things that have happened in the 5 months or so that I have blogged.
I have some free time now that Charlie is back in school on Monday and Wednesday in the evenings and I really need to get back on the ole blogging train so Ill just share some stories from these few months and hopefully catch up to now.

In September, Labor Day actually, we had decided to let the kids stay the night at my Moms house. Actually, Charlie typically decides that he needs a break before I do.
Anyway, we were on our way to go and pick them and chatting about what we should do.
Live our lives more!
Get outside!
Its Steves last hurrah before school, we for sure need to do something!
Leavenworth, we should do Leavenworth!
It was decided then. We were going to go to Leavenworth on possibly the busiest most touristy time of year and on a whim, at that.
Others plan their Labor Day Weekends, weeks, even months in advance and we, a family of 4 were going to spur of the moment take a 2 hour drive and find a hotel for the night.
Brilliant plan, Berlins.
I immediately started calling hotels. Everything was booked or 400$ for the night. I was starting to get a little nervous, but knew that we were both dead set on finding something and being awesome.
We needed a little bit of flying by the seat of our pants again. Getting back to our roots is always exciting.
We got to my moms house and ran inside.
"Where are the car seats? Steve get your shoes on! Lets go! Wheres the baby?"
"Whats going on? Why are you rushing? Do you want to stay for dinner?"
"We decided on the way over that were going to stay the night in Leavenworth tonight."
My mothers husband literally, laughed at us.
"Do you really think your going to get a hotel room? There certainly wont be any camping at all! Good luck!
Summer was napping, I had to wake her up and she wasn't happy about that one at all.
We were on a mission though and Summer needs to learn that in this family, were incredibly impulsive; naps can wait.
We managed to get out of my moms house in a reasonable amount of time and back to our house to rush and pack.
Oh by the way who is going to feed our dogs?
Hmmm....
After throwing everything together and double checking that I had the hand pump and enough dipes to last a few days. We piled in the car, pretty pumped about doing something fun.
Luckily we had an extra key and I called my friend Jamie, she happily fed our dogs for the next couple of feedings.
When we were finally on our way. I called a hotel right on the main drag and they had one room that somebody had just canceled, perfect.
The ride over was pretty uneventful. I pumped several times with my hand pump and that shit sucks. Literally. (Heyyo!)
When we finally pulled in after 2 hours of driving I started unloading and Charlie went in to go and check in. He came out and told me to start putting the stuff back in the car.
There was a problem.
I was hot and about ready to freak the fuck out when he said that we were upgraded to a condo.
It was fucking awesome!
It was about the size of our house and way nicer. Like way nicer.
We got all settled in and at dusk we went to the best restaurant in the city, South.
Its a cool Mexican place and we were able to sit outside and totally relax. Summer flirted with everyone she saw and Steve happily ate his food. Mommy and Daddy got in some adult beverages and that was fantastic.
We went back and swam for a while and finally called it a night around ten.
Steve got his own room with a tv, which is his absolute dream and something that will never happen.
Charlie and I watched Sister Wives in our amazing down bed and I was so excited that I couldn't sleep.
Seriously. It was awesome.
The next day we went out and had some breakfast and Steve wanted to putt putt golf.
It was insanely hot and only 10 am.
We went and signed in and got our putters.
We did the first hole and Charlie was all about keeping score, then we got out of the shade and into the real crazy heat.
All bets were off at that point. Charlie and I were just swinging and being crazy, trying to get the game done with and Steve was having tons of fun, high sticking his putter a little too much.
By the end of the game Charlie was dripping with sweat and so was Summer. He was wearing her on his back and her carrier is black, not exactly smart when its 100 degrees out.
We went back and swam for a little while, Summer in her adorable one piece and Steve not wavering from safety wearing his lifejacket the entire time.
Charlie packed us up and after lunch we bid adieu to our amazing hotel room and the little Bavarian city that we love so much.
It brought us back to our roots; flying by the seat of our pants.
Cheers.
