Who is the cutest freaking pirate in the whole world?
AAAAARRRR! Steve the Pirate be!
Steve has been a lot of things for Halloween
-Spongebob
-Indiana Jones
-A monkey
-Fireman
We chose all those things for him, but this year, since August he had been wanting to be a pirate
So, when we got into Wa we went out and bought a Captain Jack Sparrow costume complete with pirate do-rag and attached dreadlocks and eye patch.
I waited until the day before Halloween to put it on him and he was not happy.
Apparently, the costume wasn't up to Steve the Pirates expectations.
He didn't want to wear the eye patch or the dreads.
In fact he started crying and saying he wanted to be SpongeBob for Halloween.
Oh no.
You re gonna be a pirate and your gonna enjoy every minute of pirate awesomeness.
So, Halloween came and I made him wear it.
Because I'm the mom and can make those types of executive decisions.
After some haggling and pirate sword fighting, I told him I would carry his pirate sword and he didn't have to wear the dreads...although no one would really know what he was without it.
I also highly doubt pirates wore Converse either.
But whatever.
We went out insanely early, it was 5:30 I think and not one child was out trick or treating but that's OK, because that meant we could hit up our neighbors for candy several times, which is what we did.
The first house he went to, was a little shaky.
He wanted candy and to go inside and eat it.
We had to yell, "No! Stay on the porch!"
He was pretty pumped.
People are just handing out candy!
The next house was fully decked out in Halloween decorations, scary stuff on the lawn and giant spiders in the windows.
I should have known that that wasn't the only thing going on.
He walked up to the house with one thing on his mind, candy.
We looked on from the street, smiling, waving, yelling words of encouragement.
"Remember to say trick or treat! Stay on the porch!"
He looked back, apprehension in his eyes, but determination in his feet.
Then, as he got closer to the porch a thick, black cloud of smoke started billowing from the stairs.
He jumped back a little and then full realization that his little life was going to be snuffed out by those giant stuffed spiders and this smoke cloud of death, he turned and started running with sheer terror on his face.
Steve the Pirate was going down.
As you may well know, balance and grace are not something Steve is blessed with.
He got tangled in his empty candy sack and giant feet and fell.
We immediately scooped our little defeated pirate up and started consoling him.
The guy that set the death cloud on my son came out and apologised and let him score several pieces of candy.
Steve the Pirate averted death, for today.
This little kit-kat bar really saved the evening.
He ate it and cried for a second, I challenged him to a Pirate duel, which I won, and then we set out again.
We met up with Steve's friend Colton and my friends Jamie and her family.
As it started getting darker and colder, Steve started getting much more excited and was literally running to each house and telling them his life story.
Overly excited, he would run up and ring the doorbell until one of us yelled "Only once!"
Person would open the door and then a barrage of statements would shoot out of Steve's mouth.
"Hi, my name is Steve. I'm a pirate. I like this candy. Trick or treat. Thank you!"
If he forgot to tell the lucky person all this information, he would try and knock on the door again or would yell "Mommy! I forgot to tell them my name!"
It was hilarious and the best Halloween ever.
We scored lots of candy and he already knows what he wants to be next year.
It doesn't involve dreads, either.
Cheers.
Haha, I love this! It really was fun :)
