My friends Heather and Aidan came to visit last Tuesday through Saturday and it was the most relaxing and amazing five days of my life. We picked them up in Lafayette which was super nice because it meant that I didn't have to drive for three hours to pick them up in New Orleans, especially with gas prices being 12.00 bucks a gallon. Seriously, this gas thing is getting a little out of hand...I miss my Prius.
Anyways, that day I had gotten bright pink feathers in my hair and it was kids night at my restaurant so there was a face painter so Steve had gotten bat man painted on his face. Aidan and Heather were welcomed to Lafayette with me and Steve looking like crazy weirdos and they loved it.
The first night I was pumped because I finally had people to cook for and appreciate it. Chicken nachos and Sara's Famous Peanut Butter Cookies was a perfect end to their long day of travel.
After walking 2 miles we went home and woke up Aidan and had a little snack a roo. We then decided on the ever popular Jungle Gardens/Tabasco Factory Tour. I'm pretty sure that I know the entirety of the Tabasco Factory Tour speech. If not, then I am definitely the most knowledgeable about Tabasco. At Jungle Gardens the owner of the grounds was some kind of bird conservationist so they have a huge man made nesting area for Egrets that is out in the middle of the swamp. The swamp water looks like turf, its gross.
The lovely thing about the turf water is that you can make jazz hand shadows in it, which we did.
The also have bamboo everywhere, which is very strong. Heather didn't trust what all the millions of bamboo promoters said, so she tried its strength out for herself while simultaneously yelling, "You're supposed to be my spotter! Stop taking pictures while I fall!" and flashing most everyone in the park. Turns out bamboo can hold over 100 pounds, no spotter needed.
After bamboo testing they decided to practice their upcoming nuptials....
to which I said, "No, no your doing it all wrong! Watch my more experienced hand with this palm tree." Oh yeah, I schooled their asses.
The next day we went to the pool where I was put in charge of spraying on sun block to Heather and she was in charge of Aidan. I don't wear sunblock which is something that isn't very smart, but man am I tan!
We played Chicken
which resulted in dead Heather.
After spending several hours at the pool, running around and falling asleep we got back in the car to go pick up Steve at school and then we realized what horrible SPF blockers we were. They both had bright red streaks and funky tan lines all over them. One of Aidan's legs was bright red while the other was still white, apparently he had crossed his legs and fallen asleep that way and Heather had a bright red chest from all the swimming/pool reflecting. I on the other hand was a nice golden brown, and probably full of cancer from the sun. You win some, you lose some.
We went out to Randolls and I had some craw fish and they had gumbo and Cajun pasta, I also made them eat some alligator. It was Heathers birthday so Steve danced to some Zydeco music with her, which was adorable but short lived.
Before they came down I was planning on taking Heather out on the town for her birthday and doing a lot of drinking then they got here and we were all so content just hanging out with each other and talking. I loved that we could just sit downstairs and chat about whatever we wanted to while Heather laid on the couch playing Angry Birds on her I-pod, Aidan sat at the table doing Nerd things on his computer and I sat on the floor doing a word search.
It was the best vacation yet and there is more to come...
Cheers.
